205 Hudson Street is pleased to announce an artist talk by Shara Hughes as part of the MFASO Fall 2016 Lecture Series. Shara Hughes is a painter based in Brooklyn, New York. Akin to the Early Modernists, the work embodies vivid color contrasts and decorative patterning. Her imagery is based on personal experience, while pulling out something that is a psychological landscape from abstract process. The paintings are invented journeys from accumulated marks and diverse use of materials.

“Working abstractly until the painting is kind of ready to take on a life is a way for the work to be more open and evolve organically as opposed to some idea I just come up with and then execute.” –Shara Hughes

Hughes received B.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design, and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She recently had her debut solo exhibition Trips I’ve Never Been On at Marlborough Chelsea in February, 2016.
