MFA and MA Curatorial Opportunities
Building on the rich history of collaboration between MA and MFA students at Hunter, we periodically announce Open Calls for MA students to propose curatorial projects at 205 Hudson street. These opportunities welcome emerging curators in the Art History MA program at Hunter College to propose modestly scaled exhibitions or public programs featuring works or contributions by their MFA peers.
For the next Open Call, we're offering three spaces (each providing approximately 600 square feet) for exhibitions or programming at the beginning of the fall semester. These projects will be featured in a Fall 2023 kickoff event the evening of Wednesday, August 30 at 205 Hudson. The event will be a mixer of new and current MA and MFA students, as well as faculty and staff, and other special guests.
Given the brevity of the exhibition, which will last approximately one week, you are encouraged to consider 2-D and 3-D artworks that are relatively easy to install, and/or the potential of art presentations which favor temporality. Time-based mediums such as performance and activations are well-suited for this type of exhibition and will be strongly considered.
Our goal is to provide a platform for MA and MFA students to collaborate and gain practical experience on how to plan and execute exhibitions and programming. Looking ahead, we will be doing an Open Call for the Fall Open Studios happening on October 14, 2023.
