PRINT STUDIO AND RISO LAB: CORNER PRESS

About the Printmaking Studio:

Located on the 4th Floor of the Hunter MFA Building, the Printmaking Studio, Corner Press is equipped for intaglio, relief, and screen printing techniques. It features a 32” wide Charles Brand etching press, a drying rack, a large exposure unit and wash out booth for screen printing, and an Accu-Glide 25"x 38" screen printing table with a one-man squeegee. Additionally, the studio includes dedicated areas for ink mixing and paper cutting. This studio is designed for students interested in exploring both traditional and experimental printmaking techniques in their art practices.

Hunter College Riso Lab: A Hub for Printing Innovation and Publishing Research

Located on the 4th Floor of the Hunter MFA Building (Room 430), the Riso Lab at Hunter College is a space dedicated to the exploration of Riso printing techniques and the advancement of publishing research. This newly established lab is not just a printing studio; it is a dynamic research laboratory committed to fostering knowledge production, community engagement, and the evolution of publishing practices.

The Riso Lab is equipped with two Riso SF5450U machines, a Xerox printer, computers, and a cutting station, along with a well-stocked inventory of paper for student use. A key feature of the lab is its curated library, which includes a diverse selection of Riso publications from independent publishers around the world, as well as essential resources on Riso printing and publishing, offering students both inspiration and practical reference material.

We offer comprehensive orientations that provide an in-depth exploration of the history and various uses of the Riso duplicator machine. These sessions cover everything you need to know to safely operate both Riso machines in the Hunter Riso Lab and familiarize you with the lab dynamics, ensuring that by the end, you will be certified to use the studio independently.

If you have not already taken a Printmaking elective, you must schedule an orientation meeting with Nicholas D’Ornellas (nick.hunterprint@gmail.com), or Alejandra Arias Sevilla (ale.ariassevilla@gmail.com) before utilizing the Printmaking studio, or Eva Parra (hola@calipsopress.com) before utilizing the Riso Lab
